I must be mad

We are off on vacation for a few days.

Somewhere hot and exotic you wonder ? Not a chance. We are going to Chicago which is currently 18 degrees and looks like this.....

On top of this there is a winter storm warning in effect which is forecasting accumulations of from 12 to 14 inches of snow.

Oh joy !

So far today over 200 flights have been canceled so hopefully we will actually get there without too much trouble.

Now I could tell you that Mick is flying me away for a romantic Valentines day weekend....but the truth is there is a band playing there that he really wants to see :-)

Yes we are flying 1731 miles to see a band. Not quite as exciting as when we drove from Minnesota to New York to see December...that was cold as well.

(Note to band and beg them to start playing the SW)

Anyhow, we decided to make a long weekend out of it though and take in the sights.

At the moment the Miniature White House is on display at the Museum of Science and Industry alongside Coleen Moore's fairy Castle.

We actually saw the fairy castle last time we were in Chicago (yes seeing the same band) and the White House is actually coming to California shortly so we might wait till it comes here.

Hopefully I will get a chance to visit the Thorne Miniature Rooms though.

So, until next week, toodle pip.

  1. OOOh - have fun and stay warm!! I love the fairy castle and would visit it often when we lived in chicago... and this was even before I was obsessed with miniatures! I am hoping you get to see the Thorne Rooms! I haven't seen them and want to so badly... like I said - stay warm!!! hugs, ara

  2.'re mad. Stark, raving...

But as soon as the runways are clear, the flights will commence. Be sure to take your snuggy undies because the wind off the Lake is vicious! LOL

  3. Not madder than me... when , last year,I had a 24 hours train journey to spend 10 hours in Paris to go to SIMP. I enjoyed every hour of it. Have fun Rosanna

  4. The Fairy Castle is just awesome. The only problem I found was the lighting in the room was so dim it made it hard to see a lot of the detail. I have the book though and look at it often.

Micks idea of fun is so not an art museum but if he is dragging me all the way up there to see a band he wants to see I feel there ought to be some compromise :-)

That wind is vicious true. We visited all of the great lakes in winter when we lived there.

Snuggy undies lol...I don't even have a real coat since I moved to CA :-)

Thanks Linda.....I hope it is safe and quick.

  5. Oh Rosanna...a 24 hr train ride though Europe...that sounds just perfect and I'd trade you any day :-)

I've done the train from England to Paris and that journey was nowhere near long enough :-)

  6. I'd love to see the fairy castle, maybe one day? anyway snow or not, have a great weekend (but find a warm coat first LOL x

  7. Safe journey to you both and happy travelling. I hope you both have a lovely time.

  8. oh Jayne- we actually have better weather here- are you sure you don't want to come to Brainerd? We have loads of bars here- there must be a halfway decent band in one of them! I hope you have safe travels- be careful please! I am so very jealous- I tried really hard to get my hubby to go to Chicago to see the white house in miniature, but not enough money and not enough time. sigh. I can't wait to hear all about your trip- have fun and stay warm!!!

  9. Ah yes, I remember Chicago in winter, haha! The wind sooo cold...but if you dress up warm it is a lovely city. How wonderful you'll get a chance to see the White House, Fairy Castle and the Thorne Rooms! I'd love to see the Thorne Rooms, pure perfection! Have a safe trip and ENJOY!

  10. You'll be singing THAT bad songs in your sleep soon! ;o) Take plenty of woolies! Chicago is wonderful....better than NYC methinks. Have a great time!

  11. You are crazy. All I can think of right now is being somewhere WARM! Hope you have a safe trip and a good time too.

  12. Hmm, I was thinking 18 degrees? Perfect weather and realise you were talking fahrenheit.
    So which band is this?
3 houses in 1 trip? You are in for a treat! Brrrrrr, I am sitting in my office with air-conditioning blowing 19 deg celcius and freezing! :):) Good luck, girl!

  13. Hope you both have a lovely time! I'd go there at the drop of a hat if the snow was going to be that deep! Will be fun!
