..............lots of them :-)
These are for the big commission I am working on at the moment.
I was curious how many there were but I counted 400 and gave up. I hope that is enough :-)
To give some perspective, the pile on the left is about 3 inches by 2 inches. I know it doesn't look like there are 400 leaves there, I was surprised as well , but there are...pinky promise.
It is hard to tell from the photo but each one has multiple layers of paint on it to create a variegated effect. It is hard to tell in real life as well to be honest as they are so small. But once they are all put on you will notice the difference in colors and it won't look as flat as it would if they were all one solid color.
I wish I could share more pics of it coming along but I can't so this will have to do for now. It is the biggest thing I've ever made, and despite a few nerves, it is coming on wonderfully.
oh my goodness Jayne- I stand corrected! I thought 300 was a lot! Are you insane????(she asks in the sweetest way possible) I know that this project is going to be amazing...I still look at my little geranium with it's carefully painted variegated leaves and think what a genius artist you are! Are your hands sore? I can't wait to see more ♥
ReplyDeleteJayne I have seen your leaves up close (cherished rose bush xxx) these pics dont do them justice. Your attention to detail is pure perfection.
ReplyDeleteI wouldnt of had the patience to count them LOL

So pleased your enjoying doing your mystery creation, so excited to see what it is!!! You have SOME patience!!! Kate xx
ReplyDeleteMe insane....yup lol
ReplyDeleteI did them in bits while watching the world cup so didn't sit more than 2 hours doing them. I did get a callous on my index finger after a few days though so had to stop for a bit :-)
It will all be so worth it though.
Thanks Debie....I still love that rose bush.
ReplyDeleteNo you can't see the detail...and you really wont once it is finished either unless you are really looking. But I've found that if you don't put it in there the whole thing just won't look 'right' once it is finished. It is all the little seemingly insignificant details that add to the finished piece.
I only counted them as I was curious how many I'd done and how many would be in the final piece lol
Kate...I am excited to show it - I am going as quick as I can :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, wow! You must be very patient Lady! Can't wait to see them put on!:)Incredible work!
ReplyDeleteHi Ewa...it is the putting on that requires the most patience...I may be some time :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to guesstimate that you have made something in the neighborhood of 2800 leaves, if the pile of 400 is sitting next to the rest. That's a whole lotta leaves!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kat....that really does make me sound insane now :-)
ReplyDeleteAhem.....This is going to be freaking AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteJayne, you take such care of the details...which is why your work it so wonderful.
Tabs
I hope so Tabs....so does my customer :-)
ReplyDeleteIt really is these small details that pay off in the end. They might not be noticeable on one leaf but when you look at the whole picture it is....in fact you likely won't notice it in the whole picture....unless you didn't do it.
I never know how to word this and sometimes I worry it makes me sound cocky but tiny details add up and really is the key to a successful realistic looking finished piece. I can't stress that enough.
I isn't that I am especially talented or super patient or anything like that...it is just what has to be done if I want the end result to be the best I can make it.
Lovely, lovely leaves!
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right about taking the trouble to put in the 'unseen' details - the colour variation and layering makes a huge difference and lifts them into a place where they go straight to your heart, not your head, if you know what I mean. Makes you want to smile!!
Patience galore!! Can't wait to see the final piece! :)
Oh my!!! There has to be almost if not more 3k leaves! lol Gosh, soooooooo many and you can see the details and different colours too!!!! Just AMAZING and I can't wait to see it (whatever IT is!).
ReplyDeleteMagnificent work Jayne!
Michelle xxxx
Well, that's a LOT of leaves :D Really would go nuts putting them on... I thought that I had a idea what you're doing and to whom, but the leaves don't look right for it, so really wait to see this mystery plant finished :)
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking that you are stark raving mad....or at least I would be! You must have some determination lady! I'm impressed!
ReplyDeleteHi Glenda, YES I know exactly what you mean and I am glad you understand me. If a piece makes me and my customer smile then I know I've done my job well.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle...you'll just have to wait like the others. I think you'll like it :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Ira...I see you've been making trees too ....fun isn't it.
ReplyDeleteSo....what did you think it was and who it was for ? Please tell :-)
Hi Christine...determination ...or stubborn....is my middle name. I likely will be stark raving mad by the end of it lol
ReplyDeleteI'm going stark raving mad just looking at all of these leaves! Goodness sakes! Then I think about how you will attach them one by one and I go cross eyed just thinking about that!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis tree is going to be breath taking!!!!!
Wow, can't wait to see this with the leaves in situ, you have amazing patience. Wonderful :0)
ReplyDeleteJulia xx

Hi Kathi....the attaching will take some time lol The cutting was the easy bit..nwt I get to the hard stuff.
ReplyDeleteJulia...hmmm all that stitching you do..I couldn't do that...you definitely have bundles more patience than me :-)
ReplyDeleteNo sneezing Debbie...not much breathing either lol.
ReplyDeleteAll it takes is practice Flora....you do get quicker :-)
ReplyDeleteWHOW!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Jayne, I hope that you do not only dream of leaves by now - a great work! I look forward to seeing more of your amazing plants. CHAPEAU!
